During the Spring Term, Apple class were focusing on the topic of ‘Animals in the Community’. Our class story has been ‘Farmyard Hullaballoo’ and the children have enjoyed identifying all of the different animals and playing with the story props during our focused small world play. Through these lessons, children have been able to role play things that happen on the farm and vocalise the noises made by the animals.

In Design technology, the children have been making items from product that come from animals, these have included sausage rolls and cheese wraps. Through these lessons, the children have learned about how some familiar food come from animals e.g eggs come from chickens.

In Science we have been learning about the different parts of plants. We have explored real plants and flowers, used seeds and soil to plant our own flowers and have watched them grow. We recently transferred our sprouting flowers to bigger pots and got to see the roots that had formed.

Recently, Apple Tree class visited The Sensory Gym in Oswaldtwistle and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were rooms for building, a calming room with bubble tube and sensory lights, a room with a big climbing frame, selection of swing and a rollator slide…something for everyone to enjoy. The ball pit was a particular favourite.

As we move into the Summer Term, we will be learning about the ‘Life Cycles’ of animals in Science and ‘Weather around the World’ in Geography.
