All children are entitled to a broad and balanced education. At Tor View we believe that study support enhances the curriculum and offers a range of in-school and out-of-school study support opportunities and educational visits. Where study support is curriculum based it is budget led and all pupils will have the opportunity to attend as long as parental consent has been ascertained. Voluntary contributions may be requested to cover refreshments or additional activities not wholly curriculum related.
Pupil Premium Grant
Schools now receive additional funding, The Pupil Premium Grant, for each child on their roll, in Reception to Year 11, who is currently registered as eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) or has been within the last six years (Ever 6) or who has previously been placed in care (Post-Looked After Child). We are keen to maintain the confidentiality of each individual family’s financial circumstances and therefore target Pupil Premium at a variety of specific costs. We have created this policy to clarify how in-school and out-of-school activities are funded and enable all children and families to access provision more fully. Please note Pupil Premium is not an individual budget allocated to a family for their child’s education. The Governing Body makes the decision on how Pupil Premium should be targeted to ensure efficient and effective outcomes for children who are eligible.
Looked After Children (LAC) and Post-LAC as defined in the Children Act 1989 are also entitled to Pupil Premium. This fund is accessed through a Personal Education Plan (PEP). At Tor View Louise Parrish is the named Senior Leader for LAC (Designated Teacher). Part of her role includes the management of the PEP process. In the interests of inclusivity, where a LAC can access the targeted support offered to other pupils accessing Pupil Premium, this will be included in their PEP. If a Carer or Corporate Parent of a LAC requests specific support outside of school they must demonstrate the intended educational impact of this support including researching appropriate provision and costs so they may be included in the PEP.
Most of the Pupil Premium Grant is targeted to meet the needs of individual children however a small contingency is retained to be used globally if a child or family require particular assistance.
Each year school will host 2 formal PEP meetings, one in the Autumn term and one in the Spring term. The Attendance of the Corporate Parent (Social Worker) from the placing Authority is essential. An informal PEP discussion will take place in the Summer term.

The Pupil Premium Plan 2018-19 identifies the percentage of pupils at the end of every Key Stage that made at least expected progress with some exceeding their individual targets. This plan highlights the gap has closed between the attainment/progress of pupils eligible to pupil premium in comparison to non eligible pupils.
The case studies highlight individual progress and the impact of small group or individual intervention groups.
There has been an increase in the number of parents accessing the school Parent Liaison Officer as in 2016-17 3 families accessed this service in comparison to 2017-18 when 27 families accessed the service and 2018-19 when over 27 families accessed the service.
The number of pupils engaging in extra curricular activities that are eligible to pupil premium has increased by 50%
Year 7 Literacy & Numeracy Catch-up Premium
The Department for Education (DfE) provides additional funding, the Year 7 Catch-up Premium, for each Year 7 pupil who has not achieved National Curriculum Level 4 in Reading and/or Mathematics at end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6). The purpose of the Year 7 Catch-up Premium is to support the target pupils’ progress and attainment. The grant for the 2019-20 year is £500 per qualifying pupil.
Tor View School currently has 21 Year 7 pupils who meet the criteria for the Year 7 Catch-up Premium. The school has therefore been allocated £10,500 of Year 7 Catch-up Premium.
Proposed use of the Year 7 Catch-up Premium
The Year 7 Catch-up Premium funding is intended to enable schools to provide targeted support to improve attainment in Reading and Mathematics, for some of our pupils with a higher level of need this is translated as pre-reading / communication skills and early cognition skills.
The progress made in English and Mathematics by all pupils who have been targeted with additional support funded through the Year 7 Catch-up Premium will be carefully monitored. This will be achieved through termly tracking using IPRA (the school’s in-house assessment database). Personalised interventions will be put in place for any child who is not on target each term. At the end of Year 7 it is anticipated that all pupils will be on target, or exceeding their target, to make expected progress by the end of KS3 relative to their individual starting point.
