What is the Rainbow Flag Award?
The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for schools and youth organisations, promoting positive LGBTQ+ inclusion and visibility. It supports a whole-school approach through a process of action, reflection, and continuous development.
At Tor View School, the award encourages us to review our policies and practices to ensure we are providing inclusive, effective support for pupils who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer (LGBTQ+).

Why are we participating in the Rainbow Flag Award?
At Tor View School, we are committed to reducing discrimination and promoting equality for all pupils. As part of this commitment, we are implementing the Rainbow Flag Award across the school.
The award supports staff, parents, carers, and pupils in recognising, respecting, and valuing members of the LGBTQ+ community. It helps us to strengthen our inclusive ethos and ensure that all pupils feel safe, supported, and understood.
In line with the Sea View Trust Equality Policy, the Trust aims to advance equality of opportunity by removing or minimising disadvantages experienced by individuals with protected characteristics—for example, pupils with disabilities or those who may experience homophobic or transphobic bullying.
Our goal is to continue developing a fully inclusive environment where all pupils feel respected and confident to be themselves.
How will this affect school life?
The Rainbow Flag Award will be implemented across Tor View School in a way that is appropriate to the needs of each key stage and our pupils.
Through PSHE and the wider curriculum, pupils will learn about respect, inclusion, and celebrating differences. This supports them to become:
- Responsible citizens
- Successful learners
- Resilient individuals
By developing understanding and acceptance, we aim to reduce homophobic and transphobic bullying and promote a positive, inclusive culture across the school community.
