Halloween Potion Making Fun!
3SL had a fantastic time creating their own Halloween potions as part of a cross-curricular learning activity. Using spooky ingredients, colourful mixtures, and plenty of excitement, the session provided many opportunities for learners to develop skills across several subjects while having fun.
In PSHE, learners explored the question “What makes a good person?” As they created their potions, they reflected on positive character traits such as kindness, honesty, helpfulness, and respect, adding these "ingredients" to their magical creations and discussing how these qualities help us build positive relationships.
In Maths, learners practised measuring and comparing different quantities as they carefully added ingredients to their potions. They used a range of measuring equipment and developed their understanding of capacity, volume, and counting.
The activity also linked to Science, where learners took part in simple chemistry-style experiments. They observed how different substances mixed together, noted changes in colour and texture, and made predictions about what might happen when ingredients were combined.
Most importantly, every learner was able to access the activity at their own level, with tasks linked to their individual targets. It was wonderful to see learners engaged, motivated, and proud of their creations. The session encouraged curiosity, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork making learning both meaningful and memorable.
Well done to all our budding potion makers!
