Students in Next Steps have been working really hard. In their Key Skills lesson they have been working on developing their functional skills in Numeracy. Understanding money is a skill which we will use in the community and they have been practicing this within the classroom. They have been identifying coins and exchanging these for items of the same cost. Some students have done exceptionally well and are able to combine different coins to make an amount. Another group has been working on telling the time and are making fantastic progress, becoming more confident and showing us that they can tell us key times throughout the day.
The next step group have then completed their community lesson where we have been working on crossing roads safely to enable the students to be more independent. We have practiced this by taking a walk in the local area. The students have taken turns to cross the roads remembering to use the green cross code, Stop, Look and listen. We were very impressed with how confident they are becoming. Some of the students are now able to give detailed explanations of what they are doing and tell us about any hazards that they identify.
All the work that we have completed is going to support us next half term when we are hoping to use public transport to travel into Rawtenstall. We will use the skills we have developed to ensure we get there safely, on time and understand the money we will use whilst accessing local amenities.
