Topics this term!

Welcome to the Summer 2 page for P7. In our final term before the summer holidays, our theme is Explorers! Over the course over the next few weeks, look out for a variety of fun tasks that you can try out at home.

Pirates!

Pirates were famous for exploring the seas, in search of valuable treasure. To help them on their journey, they would use a treasure map. If you were a pirate, what types of treasure would you look for? Think about what is really special to you, or something you’d really like to find! Why not have a go at creating your own treasure map? To take it look very old, why not tea stain your paper? All you need is a cup of water that has had a tea bag placed inside it for a few minutes. Have a look at the example below to help you out! Don’t forget to email any copies of your work to office@theviewtrust.org

French

In KS2 French we are learning how to say colours in French. Watch the video below and attempt to say the correct colours – once you have finished, try and write all the colours down that you can remember. Below are links to a range of different French activities that you can try out while at home!

PSHCE

This half term, we are learning about Physical, Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing. To promote your physical wellbeing, you could take part in a Cosmic Kids yoga session – follow the link and choose which session you’d like to do! To promote your mental wellbeing, you could take some time out of your day to meditate. I’ve attached a link to a guided meditation session on YouTube but if you have an Alexa at home, you can say “Alexa Meditate” and she will play come calming music while you take some deep breaths. To promote your emotional health and wellbeing, think about something that you really enjoy doing – this could be baking, drawing, singing, building lego or anything else you can think of!

Food Technology

This term, our topic in Food Technology is potatoes. See below for a range of delicious, simple recipe that you can try out at home with your grown ups. Don’t forget to wash your hands with warm soapy water before preparing any food!

Stuffed Jacket Potatoes

Ingredients

4 medium potatoes
100g strong cheddar, grated, plus extra for topping
100g sweetcorn
100g mixed pepper, diced
Small handful fresh herbs, such as oregano, basil, coriander, dill or thyme

Method

Equipment you will need: medium mixing bowl, small mixing bowl, dessertspoon, fork, baking tray, grater, oven gloves.

  1. Get an adult to heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and bake the potatoes for about 1 hr until cooked and the skins are crispy. Leave to cool completely. This can be done up to 2 days ahead.
  2. To stuff the jacket potatoes, heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Ask an adult to cut the potatoes in half. Using a spoon, carefully scoop out the middle of the potato, leaving the skin unbroken (like a boat). Place the scooped potato into a mixing bowl.
  3. Using the fork, mash the potato until there are no lumps. Add the cheese, sweetcorn and peppers and mix well. Gently pick the leaves from the herbs. You can rip the larger leaves into smaller pieces. Stir the herbs into the cheesy potato mixture.
  4. Using the spoon, carefully scoop the mixture back into the potato boats. Make sure that you use all the mixture up. Sprinkle with a little extra grated cheese and place on a baking tray. Using oven gloves, place the tray in the oven and bake for 10-15 mins until golden.
