Reading is one of my favourite hobbies to help me relax at home. I know that in P7, we all share a love for reading and I want that to continue while at home. A current recommendation is David Walliams – Slime. Have a look at the video below to meet some of the characters in the story!

Mindful Colouring

Mindful colouring is another lovely way to relax while at home. If you can, print some of these sheets off and spend time on creating something colourful and fantastic!

What could you put in a time capsule to open at the end of the year? In mine, I would place a current photograph, a newspaper and a letter to myself – describing what I was doing, how I felt and how I looked.

Please have a look at and print out (or use them for your own ideas) the files that are available to download!

VE Day - 08/05/20

This Friday we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe, which is known as VE (Victory in Europe) Day. Watch the following video below (up to 4:18) and think about the following questions:

What do you notice in the video?

Why do you think it’s in black and white?

Are people wearing the same clothes as we would wear now?

What do you think the people are doing?

How do you think they are feeling?

Do the songs they are listening to sound different to what we listen to today?

World War 2 started in September 1939 and continued in Europe until 1945. VE Day marked the end of conflict and people in the UK could start to live a normal life again.

Recipes

During World War 2, people in Britain had to use ration books to buy food. This meant that they could only get certain amounts of ingredients. Due to this, people at home were creative with recipes – using what they had available to make meals. Have a look at the downloadable recipe book below and try some of them out!

When the news was shared that war had ended in Europe, many people in the UK celebrated by holding street parties. Children played games such as Hopscotch and Marbles, while adults drank tea. Streets were decorated with Union Jack bunting and popular music, such as Vera Lynn, was listened to.

What would you have at your own VE party? Perhaps you could make some of the recipes in the booklet, such as the spongeless cake!

Listen to some of the music below that was popular at the time. You can also colour your own Union Jack bunting using the downloadable template below.
