Creative - Where we live

Our Geography and Art topics are ‘where we live’.

This includes looking at the local area and finding different landmarks, finding different materials and thinking about what you like about where you live!

Have a look at the information below to help you learn all about man made and natural materials and how you can find these in your local area.

Also, think about the places you can visit in your local area including parks and many types of buildings! There is a search and a tick list you could do on your daily walk if this is possible.

For the ART element, you could design a picture of where you live. Be as creative as you like!

You can plan this:

  1. Think about what you would like to draw, is this your house, street, a local park or a shop you like?
  2. Think about which resources you would like to use – glue, paint, colouring pencils, felt tips or any materials around the house! You could find some twigs or leaves on your daily walk if this is possible and add these to your picture.
  3. Make your environment ready for art.
  4. Create and have lots of fun!

Have a look at the ideas below to help!

Music - Local Music - Morris Dancing

Our style of dancing originated in the Cotton Mill towns and pit villages of the North West of England; where clogs were the usual type of working footwear and where the Morris tradition was performed by men, women and children.

Morris dancers have bells which they tie around the leg just below the knee.

Have a go at listening to Morris Dance Music and if you are feeling brave, have a practice and send your video clips into school.

You could ask you families to join in and talk to them about what you can see in the video, what clothing the dancers are wearing or if they have ever been to see a Morris Dancer.

There are plenty more YouTube clips that you can watch and can teach you some different steps.

Enjoy Morris Dancing!
