The Further Education Department consists of:
- Key Stage 5: 16+ yrs
In Key Stage 5 students are placed in ability based form groups where they are taught to achieve their individual priority targets and adult literacy and numeracy. For all other areas they are in mixed ability groups.
Students access a curriculum that will prepare them for adult life. Students study:
- Adult Literacy and Numeracy
- Community Life Skills
- Home Management
- Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education
- Information and Guidance
- Business Enterprise
- Work Experience and Leisure Skills
In addition, students select one of three vocational options as a specialism:
- Expressive Arts
All pupils have the opportunity to gain internal and external accreditation for their achievements in these areas.
In parallel with our Inclusion Bases in our Primary and Secondary Departments, we offer our Gifted and Talented students from Key Stage 5, who have the ability, either socially or academically, the opportunity to study in a mainstream environment with the support of a specialist teacher and a secure classroom base. With this support, these pupils spend part of the academic week at Accrington and Rossendale College.
