Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship at AccRoss @ Tor View helps to give students the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens.
Students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the college and their communities. In doing so students learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.
They reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
Students learn to understand and respect our common humanity; diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.
Sex and Relationship Education
Sex and relationships education (SRE) at AccRoss @ Tor View is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality and sexual health.
It is taught in conjunction with our PSHCE curriculum.
Content is designed to equip our students with the information, skills and values to have safe, fulfilling and enjoyable relationships and to take responsibility for their sexual health and well-being.
Young adults have an ongoing entitlement to develop their skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work in the setting that is best suited to their needs and aspirations.
At AccRoss @ Tor View we deliver a high-quality community education that helps to provide students with knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them to play a full and active part in society.
In particular, community education should prepare students to take their place in society as responsible citizens by providing them with the skills and knowledge to manage their lives, home and money well and to make sound financial decisions.
Independent Travel Training
Travel training has proven to be beneficial in enabling all users of public transport to have equality of access and independence.
At AccRoss @ Tor View we want to assist in overcoming challenges, remove barriers to independent travel and give people greater access to jobs, services and social networks.
Our Travel Training programme aims to empower our young adults to take greater control in their lives, enabling them to learn new skills and take advantage of opportunities in their communities. Travel training is a very important skill for life. Being able to travel with less support allows the student to engage in social and educational activities and helps them to maintain better relationships.
Independent travel skills also help to open up employment opportunities, contributing to a more fulfilled life.
Extension and Enrichment Opportunities
This course provides high quality education and work/community based training for 3.5 days per week.
We recognise that as students are working towards developing their independence there is also a need to develop leisure skills as part of lifelong learning.
AccRoss @ Tor View is committed to supporting young people and their families in accessing meaningful leisure either by signposting to the wide range of provision existing across Lancashire or by supporting families in getting best value from Direct Payments and other funding streams.
