Welcome from our Head of School, Mrs Louise Parrish
Hello and a very warm welcome from me, Louise Parrish, to Tor View School Specialist Learning Community! I am delighted to be Head of this Outstanding School and am extremely proud of our students, staff team and all that we achieve together. Alongside my welcome, I would encourage you to read the same from our Executive Principal, Angela Holdsworth. On our Trust pages you can find out more about our Academy Trust and the school’s involvement with the wider education landscape.
Having been appointed as the Head of School in September 2018, I would like to share a little more about our vibrant community, together with all the exciting activities things that our pupils and students are involved with throughout a typical year.
The Autumn term is always a busy one as our pupils and students settle in to their new classes and our dedicated staff team get to know each and every one, recognising their strengths and understanding areas for development. Our teaching teams work extremely hard to ensure that every child is challenged according to their ability, that they make measured progress during their time with us and they achieve their full potential. On occasion this may be challenging for the child, the family and indeed the staff! But we all believe that our learners deserve the best possible outcomes and we look forward to working with a wide variety of stakeholders (including school colleagues, health professionals and families) to ensure that we achieve this.
Throughout the year there is a carousel of opportunities for parents and carers to support with, and celebrate in, the successes of our pupils and students. These include our Christmas productions, World Book Day, Easter bonnet competitions, Residential trips, Sports Days, Enterprise events and last (but by no means least!) our hugely popular ‘Shine Arts Festival’. Our Further Education students also enjoy taking to the stage, performing annually as the ‘Face Me Theatre Company’. Tor View remains passionate about all the Arts, using them as a wonderful platform for individual expression we very much look forward to welcoming you to some (if not all!) of our events.
Behind the scenes, our parent liaison work goes from strength to strength. Additionally, as a school, we are extremely fortunate to have the support of some amazing volunteers who meet under the banner ‘Friends of Tor View’. The much needed funds that they raise help buy additional items such as playground equipment and a new school minibus.
I hope that I have been able to offer you a flavour our lively and forward thinking Learning Community which I am proud to be such an integral part of. However I am also a full time working mum of two young children and so completely understand the challenges that parenting can bring. I therefore genuinely have an ‘open door’ policy, encouraging parents and carers to get in touch with me as they feel necessary.
Last but not least, I thoroughly enjoy working with the amazing team we have here at Tor View School. Our mission statement…
Together we Inspire, Learn, Enjoy and Achieve….
is the driving force behind every decision we make. In my role as Head, I very much look forward to welcoming you to our school and, in the meantime, confidently challenging the perceptions of what our pupils can (and do!) achieve, continually striving for excellence for all.
